In Glasgow a third of all children live in poverty, in some schools child poverty levels can be as high as 50%. The Cost of the School Day project found that school costs can have a big impact on how children experience school and costs can put pressure on families and prevent children from accessing all the opportunities school provides.
Parent Councils can play a big role in reducing school costs and supporting children to have equal access to activities including school trips, fun events and after-school clubs.
